Are you ready? It’s Global Goals week! Some of you may be asking yourselves “What are the Global Goals?” The Global Goals were developed in 2015 by world leaders in an effort to make the world a better place. The 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development range from providing quality eduction for all to protecting life below water to solving the hunger crisis. The goal of meeting some of the Global Goals by 2030 is a lofty one but we as educators can begin to inspire and encourage action, change, and develop global citizens in our classrooms!

In conjunction with the Global Goals week, it’s also the launch of this years Word’s Largest Lesson which is the companion Global Goals website for schools and educators. The website is loaded with lesson ideas, articles, videos, etc for each of the 17 goals for educators to use with their students. The lessons and ideas presented on the website can be used in conjunction with the Google Geo tools. Bringing these two together can help our students develop geo-awareness, geo-inquiry, global citizenship skills, let alone inspire them to take action to do their part to help solve some of the world’s most pressing issues.

This week we’ll be sharing some ideas and ways to incorporate the use of Google Geo tools with the Global Goals. Keep an eye out for our tweets (@scubagirl812 & @coachk) and posts on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/geoclassroom), as well as here on our blog!
